6082 aluminium round bar is a medium-to-high strength alloy bar containing magnesium, silicon, and a higher manganese content than most 6000-series alloys. The added manganese controls grain structure, which gives 6082 its superior strength — up to 340 MPa in T6 temper for smaller diameters.
Known in Europe as EN AW-6082 and historically as HE30 in the UK, this alloy replaced 6061 in many European structural applications. It offers the best machinability-to-strength balance in the 6000 series while retaining excellent corrosion resistance and full weldability.
Solution heat-treated and artificially aged. The standard temper for structural and machining applications. Maximum strength with good machinability.
T6 temper with controlled stretching to relieve internal stresses. Essential for precision machining — parts stay dimensionally stable after material removal. Recommended for CNC-machined components with tight tolerances.
Soft condition for maximum formability. Used when severe forming or bending is required before final heat treatment.

Choose 6082 when: your project follows European standards (EN/Eurocode 9), requires ~10% higher strength, or your customer specifies EN AW-6082/HE30.

Honest guidance: 6082 is not ideal for every application. For decorative anodised parts, 6063 or 6061 give a brighter finish. For seawater immersion, 5083 outperforms it. For aerospace-fatigue-critical parts, 2024 or 7075 are specified instead. If your drawings reference AMS specifications, 6061 T6 is usually the correct substitution — not 6082.

Yes. 6082 welds readily with TIG or MIG using 4043 or 5356 filler wire. Note that welding reduces strength in the heat-affected zone to roughly T4 condition (~150 MPa); design joints accordingly or re-heat-treat after welding.
Yes. 6082 has very good atmospheric and marine-atmosphere corrosion resistance and can be anodised for extra protection. For continuous seawater immersion, however, 5083 grade is the better choice.
